"Where Zoning Seems a Test of Tolerance," NY Times

This story by Peter Applebome discusses the case of an Hasidic Jewish community that owns land in Airmont, NY, but has been prohibited by zoning laws from building a rabbinical college there.  As the story reflects, the Town has a track record of using its zoning laws to keep Hasidic Jews out, and current residents have not been particularly careful to hide their bias in this case.  Consequently, the U.S. Justice Department has filed a rare civil rights lawsuit to enforce the anti-discrimination provisions of RLUIPA and the Fair Housing Act.
